A Look Inside the State of Fashion Today: A Thought-provoking Conference

April 03, 2012

For any industry, there comes a time when it is necessary to take a step back and regroup. Even though it is something that is always changing, fashion is no exception. Fittingly, on May 7, a conference entitled L’état de la mode contemporaine will examine the issues currently facing the industry.

The day-long event will be broken down into four themes: consumers and fashion, fashion management, design and textiles, and ethics in fashion. The subjects tackled are as varied as they are intriguing. Covering everything from personal fashion blogs and clothing labels to smart fabrics, the presentations will each serve as a platform for exploring the philosophical, sociological, economic and cultural facets of fashion.

Guest speakers will include representatives from local universities, as well as from international institutions such as University of the Arts London, Université de Provence Aix‑MarseillePhiladelphia University and many others.

Hosted as part of the 80th congress of the Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS), this conference will be a rare  opportunity to learn about and discuss key areas of concern for the industry. Fashion remains one of the most faithful expressions of our society and our time, and coming together to talk about it is one of the best ways to understand it.

Complete details about the conference, including registration and admission, can be found on the ACFAS Web site.
