Established in 2009 by the Ville de Montréal with funding from the Québec government, the Montréal Fashion Bureau (MFB) is part of the city’s economic development department.
The organization’s mission is to promote Montréal as a fashion design centre by highlighting its know-how, artistic potential and innovativeness. Through its programs and platforms, MFB showcases and supports businesses and projects that embrace Montréal’s way of life, by way of such themes as responsible fashion, nordicity, entrepreneurship and smart clothing.
One of these programs is the ModeMontreal.TV portal, an essential source of information about fashion in Montréal. It features written content, interviews and videos on the sector’s many facets. The Calendar informs readers about fashion shows, sales, exhibits and other events taking place in the city, the Fashion map is a valuable research tool that locates where local brands are sold, and the Directory lists all industry partners.
Since its creation in 2009, MFB has helped fund many large-scale productions, such as Montréal Fashion Week, the Fashion & Design Festival, the NAFFEM by the Fur Council of Canada, the Télio competition, Espace VERRE, D-Moment and ModEthik. MFB was also behind both editions of the Prix #modeMtl awards and, in collaboration with the Festival du nouveau cinéma, the three Montréal Fashion Nights.
Today, MFB supports such emerging events as Fashion Preview and Wear It Smart in addition to high-profile events like the Fashion & Design Festival; it is also a distribution partner for various shows and fashion schools. MFB is active on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube, where it has developed a devoted community of local-fashion enthusiasts.
